ARTIST STATEMENT

“One who sees something good must narrate it.” (Ugandan Proverb)

I observe, I seek, I construct… as a photographer I want my work to be always an active verb. The series Oghundi Nayi, represents my endeavor to understand ‘the other’ as I live, talk and work with the local inhabitants in the Kasese-district west of Uganda. Could the work really bridge the cultural and symbolic gaps that exist between us? While undertaking this project, the camera became an instrument to translate new impressions of an unfamiliar culture in something tangible, something ‘real’. But did we truly get closer to the ‘other’ or do we remain forever distant?
